Education -- Journeys in Faith

JOURNEYS IN FAITH is the name of our all-ages education program.
Pastor Lesley with children at Kids' Time during worship

We believe the first step in Christ’s commission to “make disciples of all nations” is to deepen folks’ spiritual resolve through learning. We offer a range of classes that challenge participants to dovetail their Christian faith through Christian thinking and living. Our classes are engaging, fun, and intended for modern people living in a modern and challenging world.

JOURNEYS IN FAITH for adults meets several times a month.

Our Retirees meet every Tuesday at 10:00 for a time of prayer and Bible Study. They call themselves WordSeekers and using a variety of Bible translations they strengthen their understanding of scripture in a supportive environment.

On most Sundays after worship, Pastor Lesley leads a discussion class that’s designed to explore faith issues in greater depth. Recent classes have included "A Christian Response to Gun Violence," “World Religions: Islam,” “ATHEISM: A Christian Response” and “The E Word: Evangelism.” There are also Sermon Talk-backs after worship, TED Talk reflections and movie discussions.

In addition, we often meet on Monday evenings to read and discuss a book together. Recent books have included The Four Agreements, Love Wins and 12 Steps to a Compassionate Life.

Our Youth group is currently on hiatus as we eagerly await a new generation of teen learners.

JOURNEYS IN FAITH for KIDS will be a hands-on intergenerational exploration of important Bible stories taught by our pastor.

For example:

If the children are studying the deliverance of the Hebrews from Egypt, they might learn how to make bricks.

If the children are learning about Joseph, they might all have the chance to make their own colorful coat.

If the children are hearing about the miracle of Jesus Feeding the 5000, they might work on a food mission project.

We stick with a story for four or more weeks and approach it so that many different learning styles will be accommodated.

Is your child a kinesthetic learner?  Then she’ll enjoy playing games that reinforce the themes of the story.

Is your child a musical learner? Then he’ll enjoy a bell choir designed to tell the Bible story in song.

Is your child an artist? An actor? A chef? We’ll be learning the Biblical stories in a whole lot of fun ways.
